Storium Theory: Postmortem: Changing Days

This post originally appeared on Gaming Creatively on March 16th, 2017…and I once again forgot to post it over here. Sorry! It’s been a little while since it finished, but today, it’s time to talk about Changing Days. I let this go a bit longer than I meant to again–didn’t really have time to think this through and give the game a look over until now. Changing Days ran from February 28th, 2016 until February 21st, 2017, a little shy of one year. As a reminder, I write these articles as a review largely of my own role in the game as a narrator, trying to draw on my experiences and figure out what went well and what went poorly due to my actions. I may mention player input at times, but that isn’t the primary purpose of these...

Storium Theory: Postmortem: Twishted: Academia

This post originally appeared on Gaming Creatively on February 16th, 2017. This week, I’ve finished another narration, so it’s time for another postmortem article! Today’s game is Twishted: Academia, a spinoff of my original Twishted game with a drastically different setting and tone. The original Twishted went for kind of a pulp adventure feel, such as I could manage, but the Academia spinoff was instead set around a group of normal people who worked or studied at a college. I figured the setting would be fertile ground for some interesting ambitions and conflicts, while still feeling more grounded than the original game had been (and, importantly, having a smaller scale that would be easier to keep focused). I ran Twishted: Academia from...

Storium Theory: Postmortem–“Twishted”

This post originally appeared on Gaming Creatively on September 8th, 2016. My apologies for the delay getting it here–I honestly thought I’d put it in the system! Ah, well.  It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, and once again I’ve taken a bit longer than I really meant to before I started writing this…but today, it’s time to take a postmortem look at Twishted. I ran Twishted from August 19th, 2015 through August 8th, 2016–nearly one full year! It’s been a month since the story reached its conclusion, so not as big a break as I took between the close of An End In Fire and its postmortem–but still a little longer than I meant to take. Ah, well. Look at it as more time for thought, I guess. As a...

Storium Theory: Postmortem–“An End in Fire”

This post originally appeared on Gaming Creatively on May 3rd, 2016. This is the first in a periodic series of articles I’d like to write–postmortems or retrospectives on games that I’ve completed. I’m going to try to get one of these up for every game that I narrate to completion (notable games that I’ve played in that completed may have their own feature later). Warning: Spoilers for stories covered in these articles are not only possible but likely. If you’re interested in these stories from a reading perspective, I suggest reading them first and then coming back to read the Postmortem article. For this first one, I’m looking at An End in Fire, the second game I started narrating and the first that completed (the first...
